Where Mastery Meets Materials

Without materials, design would simply be ideas.

At the heart of the Juniper brand is our connection to the Earth and the splendor of its creations. The materials that make up a piece of Juniper are its soul, and the master craftspeople that handcraft Juniper are deeply intentional about honoring them, first and foremost.

We are continuously scouring the globe in search of unique and enduring materials that not only make for beautiful furniture, but will stand the test of time. Get to know the nuts, bolts and beauty under two of our favorite pieces: the Lounge Chair (J25) and the Leather Desk (J5).

The Lounge Chair (J25)

The piece that started it all. The Lounge Chair (J25) is the cornerstone of the Juniper line—it was the first piece in the collection, and set the tone and mood for everything to follow. The J-shaped lounger pays homage to Emile Jacques Ruhlmann’s work in the 20’s and 30’s; a brilliant response to art, architecture, design and fashion as it related to Art Deco.

Eric Brand sought out the perfect materials in order to bring this foundational design to life. Beginning with open pore oak from the USA, master craftspeople manipulate the oak with a process of sculpting to shape it into its voluptuous frame. Next, the oak is stained a rich brown in order to enhance the natural color and fibers of the wood.

Once the frame is complete, the body is built of supportive and sumptuous foam and covered with a warm cocoa-colored brushed canvas. The luxurious Lounge Chair (J25) is completed with the exquisite detail of antique brass nailheads.

The Leather Desk (J5)

The intoxicating scent of leather and intricate delicacy in the detail are just two of the things that stand out about the Leather Desk (J5). The true focal piece of any room, it makes a statement that anyone can relate to and appreciate. The materials that make the Leather Desk (J5) gracefully marry  the masculine and feminine, and its historical elements pay homage to the antique artisanry.

The desk’s frame is first handmade out of stainless steel, and the body of the desk is built of wood. These bones are the foundation for the exquisite materials that adorn the outside. Next, the desk is wrapped with sumptuous vegetable-tanned leather, which provides a deep sensory experience to anyone that engages with the piece.

Chunky saddle stitching firmly holds the aromatic leather in place. It is then adorned by brass pendants and handles, which are reinterpretations of antique hardware collected from a Paris Flea market from the 20s, 30s and 40s.

The inside of the desk is meticulously encased in oatmeal canvas. Two leather trays await to house your personal wares, and a power data unit with 2 outlets and a USB port allow for convenience and concealing unsightly cords.
